Life made better

29th April 2020

A powerful app that checks your mental health and wellbeing, made by Oi for a Channel-Island based health-tech company, has launched on the global app stores.

The Better brand, app, and all marketing activity, has been designed by a team at Oi alongside experts in the mental health field from The Better App Company. The Better app has a unique emotional and wellbeing check that helps people gain a deep understanding of their own real emotional needs. The user is able to find out where those needs are perhaps not being met, and, importantly, how to discover the ways in which they can better their resilience, wellbeing, health and happiness.

A free version of the Better app includes the emotional needs check that gives a trackable wellbeing score, features to encourage talking and exercising, audio to calm the mind through a simple breathing exercise, and offers the ability to connect directly with a therapist. There is a free trial on the paid monthly/annual plans, which offer additional weekly ‘Life made better’ audios and ‘Better sleep’ audios recorded by leading British mental health experts. The first 10,000 people signing up to a paid plan will be entered into a competition to win a £10,000 Northern Lights holiday in Reykjavik, Iceland.

The Better App Company will be donating 10% of profits from the Better app to mental health charities all over the world. Translated versions of the app in Italian, Spanish and Chinese are being developed next. A white-label version is ready, enabling large organisations to have their own-branded wellbeing employee app, powered by Better.

‘There are clear and proven benefits for the user - better sleep, better emotional health, better and deeper understanding of the human needs we all have, better physical wellbeing - in brief, how to design and build a better life,’ said John Halker, Co-Founder of The Better App Company.

‘Better is loaded with rich content, supporting the user to find their higher brain, their thinking mind, to settle easily into a relaxed state, to understand healthy and sustainable ways in which their needs can be met, and to sleep brilliantly well, once they know how.’

The first app created by The Better App Company, called Better Stop Suicide, was launched globally in February 2019 across the Google Play and Apple App Store. The free app’s intention was simple - to help people press their own pause button should suicidal thoughts come to them, thus buying time to get further help and support.

Key features of the Better Stop Suicide app are calming audio files, quick access to key phone contacts, gratitude checklist, built-in alarm clock, better sleep audio file, emotional needs ‘quick’ check, helpful tasks to feel better, and uniquely the app allows people to record a life-saving message to themselves.

Since its launch, the Better Stop Suicide app has been used by tens of thousands of people across the world. Feedback via the app stores has shown immensely positive results from users, and real testaments to lives being saved.  It won a Platinum Award in the Health and Wellness category at the prestigious global 2019 DotCOMM Awards.

"Thank you for making this app. I was very sad and tired. Did not want to die but wanted everything to stop. I used this app and had a good sleep and talked to my mum. It saved my life," said one reviewer.

“Thank you so much for helping me out. I am only 11 but feel like I want to commit suicide but this app has helped me a lot so thank you very much!” said another.
